Kyrgyzstani convicted of posting extremist materials on Facebook

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek convicted a man of distributing extremist materials on Facebook.

The verdict states that the accused published various extremist attributes and pictures on Kalys Umut page.

Examination by the State Committee on Religions Affairs of Kyrgyzstan confirmed that the disseminated materials were extremist and belonged to Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is banned in the republic.

During court sessions, the defendant stated that he was not an extremist and did not spread anything prohibited. However, the court found that the guilt of the man was proven by materials of the case, and sentenced him to one year suspended sentence.

The Bishkek City Court upheld the decision of the first instance court.
