Bishkek residents can buy 2.7 times less food for salary than Moscow people

Bishkek has the lowest prices for mutton, butter and first grade flour among the capitals of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. The National Statistical Committee presented such data on the results of December.

In December 2018, the maximum average consumer prices for basic foodstuffs, with the exception of bread, were recorded in Moscow. The maximum average consumer price for eggs ($ 1.1 per dozen) was also recorded in the capital of Russia, and the minimum ($ 0.82) — in Astana.

The minimum average consumer price for mutton ($ 4.08) in December 2018 was in Bishkek, and for pasteurized milk ($ 0.6) — in Minsk.

In December 2018, the level of average consumer prices for pasteurized milk in Bishkek was 15.3 percent higher than in Astana, and 16.7 percent higher than in Minsk.

Price of beef in Bishkek was higher than in the capitals of Kazakhstan and Belarus by 7.4 and 16.8 percent. In addition, in December 2018, the average prices for bread from first-grade flour in Bishkek exceeded their level in Astana by 38.3 percent, for potatoes — by 4.3 percent, eggs — by 20.4 percent.

Comparison of the purchasing power of an average monthly wage is also not in favor of Bishkek. On all positions, residents of all EEU countries can buy much more for their salaries than the residents of the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

For example, in Bishkek, people can buy 2.7 times less food than in Moscow.
