Young age pregnancy and unwanted pregnancy became one of the reasons for mothers to kill their children in Kyrgyzstan. Director of Child Rights Defenders’ League Public Foundation Nazgul Turdubekova told at a round table discussion.
«If we get to the root, teenagers are not aware of reproductive rights, responsibility when they have sex,» she said.
According to the head of the PF, the number of teenage pregnancy cases increases. «This concerns not only low-income families, as people think. All teenagers, who do not know about the consequences, are at risk. We do not know how many abortions are performed on the 7th −8th month of pregnancy, it is also almost a murder,» Nazgul Turdubekova believes.
She added that often women, who were left by a partner after learning about pregnancy, were in a depressed psychological state.
Another reason is the high stigma in relation to women, who have given birth without marriage.
«A false sense of shame has formed in the society — pregnancy without marriage. There were cases when migrant women returned and placed their children into orphanages. This is at best. There are sadder cases — murders, trafficking in children. They are not always women from poor families. When you ask what caused the abandonment of the child, she says — it is a shame, no one will marry me,» Nazgul Turdubekova told.
