Smuggling of $ 3.5 million from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan prevented

State security officers detained citizens who were trying to smuggle $ 3.5 million from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan. Podrobno.uz reported with reference to Uzbekistan-24 TV channel.

Daewoo Nexia car, moving along Fergana — Upper Vuadil route, was stopped on the highway in Fergana region. At least 23 bundles with $ 736,000 were found in the car during inspection. The money belonged to a passenger of the car, who was supposed to deliver the currency from Kokand to Kyrgyzstan at the request of a friend.

According to the owner of the car on which the smuggler was traveling, he was paid $ 50 for taking the man to Kokand. Other 24 cash bundles were found at the place of residence of the passenger. The officers also detained a person who handed over the money. Totally, $ 1.7 million were seized.

Another fact of currency smuggling was suppressed during an inspection of the car of 56-year-old native of Kyrgyzstan Abdurakhman, who lives in Fergana region. At least 35 bundles with $ 1.7 million were found in his car. This money was delivered from Tashkent to Fergana by a courier and Abdurakhman was to take them to Kyrgyzstan.

He admitted that he had previously brought the currency to Toshtepa village in Kyrgyzstan. A guy named Khoji took the money there, and Abdurakhman received $ 150-200 for services.

In total, over $ 3.5 million were seized from violators. Criminal cases were initiated. Law enforcement officers are looking for owners of the money.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law, toughening the punishment for illegal circulation of foreign currency on January 15. Such crimes are punished by an administrative arrest of up to 15 days, correctional labor, or restriction of freedom from two to three years. Fines were increased from 3 to 20 minimal wages.
