Rallies cause multimillion damage to Bishkek

Mayor of Bishkek Aziz Surakmatov commented to 24.kg news agency on the outcome of today’s rally on Ala-Too square.

According to him, business projects, in particular, on road rehabilitation are under threat of disruption due to the protests. The tourists who heard about the rallies refused to come to the capital.

«There are a lot of negative points. What happened today in the central Ala-Too square is worse than in a bazaar. Probably, it was necessary to have a more civilized approach to voicing their demands,» Aziz Surakmatov said.

Advisor to the mayor on information policy, Gulya Almambetova, added that the protesters did not cause much damage to the square. «Nothing was broken; they only threw out the soil from flowerbeds, trampled them a little. But employees of Tazalyk will put everything in order,» she said.

Workers of Tazalyk municipal enterprise even stressed that this time the rally participants tried not to litter and even spat in the litter bins.

Representatives of the protesters were received by the Vice Speaker of the Parliament Mirlan Bakirov. They voiced him their demands. After 3 pm, the police began to disperse the protesters. The organizer of the rally, Amanbol Babakulov, was detained  and taken to the Pervomaisky District Court for choosing a preventive measure.
