Fourteen percent of deaths in Kyrgyzstan are caused by environmental pollution. The UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Ozonnia Ojielo told.
«We all suffer from a negative impact on the environment and must be protected. Environmental pollution affects the health of people. In 2015, about 9 million people died prematurely due to environmental pollution on the planet,» he stressed.
According to Ozonnia Ojielo, poor countries suffer first of all. More than 90 percent of those who died due to environmental pollution lived in low-income countries.
The head of the UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic recalled that many countries have made commitments in the field of sustainable development to combat pollution of soil, air and water.
He added that environmental pollution also causes economic losses. Global losses are estimated at $ 4.6 billion, and in Kyrgyzstan — at $ 3.6 million annually.
