Ex-vice mayor Erkinbek Isakov deprived of Candidate of Economic Sciences title

The State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles deprived the former vice mayor of Bishkek Erkinbek Isakov of the title of a Candidate of Economic Sciences. The Chairwoman of the State Commission Bakyt Tynalieva told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, Erkinbek Isakov wrote a statement to the commission with a request to deprive him of his academic degree after the Russian Dissernet community found out in July 2018 that a significant part of his dissertation was plagiarism.

«He was the only one who wrote such a statement. We did not immediately make a decision. We decided to check the work again — sent it to the plagiarism commission. The experts examined the thesis line by line and made a decision that the percentage of plagiarism exceeded the allowable limit. More than 50 percent was taken from one thesis,» said Bakyt Tynalieva.

She added that the advisory council recommended the presidium of the commission to grant Erkinbek Isakov’s request and strip him of his title.

Erkinbek Isakov defended his thesis in April 2010 and received a science degree in economics.
