Population of Kyrgyzstan to be fully provided with drinking water until 2024

«The population of Kyrgyzstan will be fully provided with clean drinking water until 2014,» the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at a meeting with the Directors of the State Architecture Construction Department, Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Development Department and the Executive Director of the Community Development and Investment Agency (ARIS).

The meeting participants presented information on the implementation of projects under the strategy and program for providing the population with clean drinking water. As of today, projects for 193 million euros are implemented in 21 cities of Kyrgyzstan.

The most critical condition in the provision with clean water is in Jalal-Abad region, where 148 villages have no drinking water. A total of 390 villages in Kyrgyzstan do not have access to drinking water.

Clean drinking water projects are supported by the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the EBRD, the European Union, the Swiss Confederation, from which the country had received $ 191 million. Most of the funds are grants. At least 350 million soms will be allocated from the national budget for the provision of population with clean drinking water in 2019.

In addition, various funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and other countries are willing to help with attracting investment in clean water projects in Kyrgyzstan.

«We must implement the strategy of providing the population with clean drinking water. Without this, we cannot develop the economy, reduce migration, this directly affects the health of the population,» the president stressed.
