Roza Otunbayeva asks President to pardon Omurbek Tekebayev

Roza Otunbayeva sent a petition for pardon of the leader of Ata Meken political party Omurbek Tekebayev to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

According to her, Omurbek Tekebayev was convicted unlawfully, based on a slander of a foreign fraudster, and was unjustly sentenced to imprisonment by the regime of Almazbek Atambayev.

Roza Otunbayeva notes that the trials of Omurbek Tekebayev convinced the public that the charges against him were inconsistent.

«It was clear to the public that this was a political order. Omurbek Tekebayev, being the leader of Ata Meken parliamentary faction, openly and consistently criticized from the rostrum of the Parliament Almazbek Atambayev and his team,» she said in her petition.

That is why, out of personal revenge, Almazbek Atambayev launched a judicial-force mechanism aimed at defaming and condemning Omurbek Tekebayev.

She added that the criminal case against Omurbek Tekebayev made it into history as an example of violation of fundamental human rights. Roza Otunbayeva expressed hope for the restoration of justice. She also appealed to the leaders of the parliamentary factions with a request to support her petition.

Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov were sentenced to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. Courts of all instances found them guilty of corruption.

In November, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow arrested the former State Duma deputy, the main witness in the Tekebayev-Chotonov case, a businessman Leonid Maevsky. He was accused of extorting $ 37.5 million for non-proliferation of defamatory information. Leonid Maevsky faces up to 15 years in prison.
