Residents of 653 villages have no access to drinking water in Kyrgyzstan

Residents of 653 villages do not have access to drinking water in Kyrgyzstan. It was stated at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on agrarian policy, water resources, ecology and regional development.

According to the State Secretary of the State Agency for Architecture, Construction, Housing and Public Utilities Samat Borubaev and Askarbek Toktoshev, Director of the Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Department, water supply systems were not built in 390 villages during Soviet time, and the water supply systems in 263 villages are more than fifty years old.

As Askarbek Toktoshev noted, 250 million soms have been budgeted for the restoration and construction of water supply. He also told about the implementation of Ala-Too Bulagy program.

In addressing the issue of providing the population with clean drinking water, money is allocated by the Islamic Development Bank — $ 23 million, the Asian Development Bank — $ 25.7 million, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development — $ 100 million. In addition, the government of China promises $ 100 million in the form of a grant.

Askarbek Toktoshev voiced a number of problems in providing the population with drinking water, including the transformation of land for housing construction, the complexity of the process of preparing and coordination of the necessary documents with government departments.

The report of the representative of the department did not satisfy the deputies. In their opinion, the started objects are not completed. Deputy Abylkaiyr Uzakbaev suggested not to forget about the treatment facilities during construction of irrigation system in the settlements.

The government of Kyrgyzstan was given an assignment. The deputies proposed to consider the responsibility of persons due to whom drinking water issues were not resolved.
