The American side expressed hope for conclusion of an agreement on cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States in the near future. It was stated at a meeting of the U.S. Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Donald Lu with the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan Oleg Pankratov.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the USAID Mission in Kyrgyzstan, Gary Linden, and the Director for Central Asian Affairs of the U.S. National Security Council Eric Rudenshiold.
The parties discussed the state and prospects of development of bilateral cooperation. Participants of the event noted the high potential in the economic sphere and expressed their intention to take measures for the development of trade and investment relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States, as well as the creation of new business opportunities for cooperation between Kyrgyz and American businesses in a wide range of areas.
The U.S. side is confident that signing of a new agreement will have a positive impact on bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and the amount of assistance provided to Kyrgyzstan.
«The parties discussed holding of a business forum in September 2019 to familiarize American business with the investment opportunities of Kyrgyzstan and establish mutually beneficial contacts between the business community. The Minister told about the concept of digital transformation of the Kyrgyz Republic. He noted that Kyrgyzstan was interested in the development of information and communication technologies and the digital economy. Oleg Pankratov offered to involve American IT companies in the development of business activities and investment in Kyrgyzstan,» the message says.
In July 2015, the Agreement between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and the United States on cooperation to facilitate the provision of assistance dated May 19, 1993 and signed in Washington was denounced. The government of the republic has done this unilaterally in protest against awarding the human rights defender Azimzhan Askarov who was sentenced to life imprisonment.
