European Union allocates €9 million more for education sector of Kyrgyzstan

A grant from the European Union in the amount of €9,375 million was transferred to the treasury account of the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan within the framework of budget support of the education sector. Press service of the Ministry of Finance reported.

According to it, this is the final payment within the program for €30 million on assisting the government in the implementation of the Education Development Strategy until 2020 and the Action Plan for 2016-2017.

The goal of the program is to assist in reforming the systems of general and vocational education, rising their quality and pedagogical standards, and improving the management of state finances, the press service noted.

Grant funds were directed, among other things, to the purchase of textbooks, financing of the pre-school education system and connecting the schools to the Internet.

The previous two tranches of 10 million each were received in 2016-2017.

The European Union is discussing with the Government of Kyrgyzstan a new budget assistance program in the amount of €35.76 million for 2019-2021.
