Sooronbai Jeenbekov would like to see EEU without borders

President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov gave his first interview to foreign media.

He expressed his opinion about what Kyrgyzstan received after accession to Eurasian Economic Union, and what future awaits the country as a part of the union to Rossiya24 TV channel.

According to Sooronbai Jeenbekov, until 2010, Kyrgyzstan could not decide on the system of state administration, which was the cause of unrest in the country. A long-term strategy for sustainable development was adopted in Bishkek only in 2018, and a transitional period of 5 years will continue. During this time, the country will actively fight against corruption and strenuously support business, limit the interference of the authorities in the affairs of entrepreneurs.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov noted that before joining the Eurasian Economic Union, many predicted a total defeat and economic stagnation in Kyrgyzstan. One of the reasons could be the impossibility of competition with the Kazakh, Russian and Belarusian economies. However, the reality turned out to be different, and the accession to the EEU brought positive results. In particular, trade with the Russian Federation grew by 16 percent, with Kazakhstan — by 26 percent, and with Belarus — by 14 percent.

In the interview, the president of Kyrgyzstan said that he would like to see EEU without borders and border guards, with a single legal space, a common currency and a stable economic situation.
