Kyrgyz Ministry of Health lacks money for development

Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan doesn't have enough money for development. The funds cover only the maintenance of existing hospitals, the head of department Talantbek Batyraliev said today at a meeting of the Parliament.

MPs discuss execution of the parliament decision "On the state of privatized and leased land and buildings previously owned by health care organizations."

Deputy Osmonbek Artykbaev noted that the subject matter should be different - on health issues and Kyrgyzstanis' access to medicine.

"Today, we allocate large sums for the maintenance of buildings and equipment. But this is not enough. We can't solve the issue of doctors' salaries," he said.

Talantbek Batyraliev noted that the Ministry of Health is working on a reform of the system.

"First, the challenge is the support of hospitals, in order patients feel comfortable, not hot in summer, not cold in winter. And second, the personnel issue is being solved. Training of specialists goes on the Soviet system," the official said.
