Government intends to announce tender for construction of small hydropower plants

Deputy Mirlan Bakirov (Onuguu-Progress) said at a meeting of the Parliament that Kyrgyzstan needs political and economic stability to attract investments to the country. He also advocated for ensuring the government members to take more responsibility for their decisions.

"Only in this case investors will invest without fear. What are the dynamics of growth of foreign direct investments? What specific measures have been taken to create a favorable investment regime and investment incentives? Recently, the Cabinet met with representatives of the Czech Parliament, who expressed their desire to invest in our small hydropower plants. What can you say about it?" Mirlan Bakirov asked.

The Prime Minister Temir Sariev said that Czech businessmen really want to invest in small-scale energy industry in our country. "They have succeeded in this issue. But we use only 10 percent of small hydroelectric power plants. Following the talks, two contracts with them have been prepared, but  the Cabinet has fears that we will have many questions in the future. Therefore, we believe that it is necessary to announce the tender. This question is not removed from the agenda. By law, the Cabinet has the right to conclude direct contracts, if the amount of the investment exceeds $50 million, moreover, the Czech businessmen have offered good conditions: they are ready to build a small hydroelectric power plant in the shortest possible time. But the Cabinet always receives different claims, so currently we are thinking about announcing a tender," Temir Sariev said.
