Makhabat Mavlyanova: Kyrgyzstan should and can realize “Safe city” project by its efforts

"Kyrgyzstan should and can implement Safe City project by its efforts," deputy of the Parliament Makhabat Mavlyanova said today at the parliament session.

As an example of the successful launch of a similar project the deputy cited the experience of Tajikistan, the capital of which launched the Safe City project in 2014. "But a Chinese company has invested in the project there, allocating about $22 million, while for the year they collected almost $10 millions in fines for traffic violations, and for two years the project was repaid," Makhabat Mavlyanova noted.

Speaking about the domestic initiative, she recalled that only one camera, set by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic on the outskirts of Bishkek, already reveals about 2,000 violations in the day. "Even if the half of them pays fines, its 9 million soms cost will pay off for a relatively short period of time," the deputy said.

Makhabat Mavlyanova stressed that 25 percent of the collected fines  must remain on account of the Ministry of Interior for the development and improvement of the surveillance system.
