Government proposes MIA to investigate extremism

Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code, according to which not only the National Security Committee but also the Interior Ministry will be engaged in the investigation of cases related to extremism, was unanimously supported at a meeting of the Committee on Law and Order of the Parliament in the third reading.

As deputy chairman of the National Security Committee Ruslan Mamasadykov said, the bill aims to establish a barrier to extremism and organized crime, enhancing the effectiveness of government agencies in the fight against them.

According to the deputy chairman of the State National Security Committee, the amount of work in the fight against extremism increases, and if the Interior Ministry will be also engaged in the investigation and bringing to trial cases of extremism, it will relieve the work of the security services and increase the effectiveness of counteraction to extremism.

"Police also identified, collected materials and handed over to us, sometimes it "increase distance" in bringing the case to court, but the Interior Ministry has the 10th Division, which has its offices in the field, all of them will be engaged in  extremism counteraction," Ruslan Mamasadykov said.

As Deputy Interior Minister Kursan Asanov said, this decision only reinforces the efficiency in the fight against this phenomenon.
