Five people convicted for trafficking of drugs from Kyrgyzstan

Yashnabad district criminal court of Tashkent sentenced five members of a group to a term of three to eight years for the organized drug trafficking from Kyrgyzstan. RIA Novosti reported with reference to a representative of the court.

"The group consisted of five people living in Tashkent and Tashkent region, who do not have permanent jobs," the source said. According to him, its participants often went to work in Kyrgyzstan, where local drug traffickers have established contacts with them.

The representative of the court said that the group was detected in May during the control purchase with the participation of law enforcement officers. During a search of houses and apartments of the detainees, the officers found about ten kilograms of drugs - opium, hashish, marijuana.

The so-called northern route - the world's largest drug trafficking canal for the supply of opium from Afghanistan to Russia and further to Europe- runs through the territory of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Up to a hundred tons of hard drugs are transported annually through it, the agency said.
