Single Russian military base formed in Kyrgyzstan

An agreement between Russia and Kyrgyzstan on uniting all Russian facilities in Kyrgyzstan into a single base entered into force. It will stay in the country for at least 15 years.

The document was signed in September 2012 during Vladimir Putin's visit to Bishkek.

There are four Russian military facilities in Kyrgyzstan - the air base "Kant," 954th anti-submarine weapons test base of the Russian Navy (Karakol, Issyk-Kul region), 338th Russian Navy long-range communication unit (Chaldovar village, Chui region) and 17th radio seismic laboratory of seismic service of Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (Mailu-Suu, Jalal-Abad region).

According to the document, the air base "Kant" resides in the territory of Kyrgyzstan for free. It refers to the collective forces of rapid deployment of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Facilities of  the Navy fleet of Russia pay a land rent of more than $4.5 million annually.

As a payment for land rent, the Russian military seismic stations share with the Institute of Seismology of Kyrgyzstan  the data on location, power, and time of earthquakes in the country.
