EEU countries to reduce import duties 

Duties on imports from least developed and developing countries to EEU states will be reduced. The decision was made by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

There has been already approved the list of products imported from 49 least developed and 104 developing countries, in the import of which into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union customs duties will be reduced by 25 percent or completely reset.

The list was developed in the framework of the agreements with the World Trade Organization on the liberalization of access of goods from the least developed countries.

The list includes both products already enjoying tariff preferences (meat and edible by-products, fish, dairy products, honey, fruits, nuts, coffee, tea, rice, spices, cocoa beans, collectibles and antiques, precious metals and pearls, hand-made carpets), and the goods in respect of which preferential access for the least developed countries has been expanded (ferrous and nonferrous metals, certain types of engineering products). 

"The number of items that fall under the complete reset of customs duties amounted to 62 percent of the whole range. In the future, we plan to extend duty-free access to a maximum of 97 percent of the commodity nomenclature," EEC board member (Minister) Veronika Nikishina stated.
