Mayor will be elected by the deputies of Bishkek City Council. According to preliminary data, there are several candidates for the post, including the former head of Manas International Airport JSC Albek Ibraimov.

Kubanychbek Kulmatov voluntarily resigned on February 9 and told reporters that he was going to leave Kyrgyzstan for a while. Aigul Ryskulova was appointed the acting Mayor of Bishkek.
