Azimzhan Askarov ends indefinite hunger strike

Serving life sentence human rights activist Azimzhan Askarov stopped indefinite hunger strike. Press secretary of the State Penitentiary Service of Kyrgyzstan Alexander Nixdorf informed 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the day before, the human rights activist wrote a statement about the termination of the strike to the head of the detention center.

Recall, Azimzhan Askarov went on the hunger strike immediately after the decision of Chui regional court to uphold his life sentence.

Many international organizations have criticized the verdict and found that Kyrgyzstan ignores its international obligations and the decision of the UN Committee on Human Rights, which called for the immediate release of the human rights defender and quashing the conviction against him.
