Verdict on Azimzhan Askarov’s case to be delivered on January 24 

In connection with the announced day of mourning for those killed in the crash of Turkish aircraft, trial of Azimzhan Askarov's case was postponed to January 24.

Prosecutors insist that the verdict against the human rights defender (life imprisonment) should be upheld.

Recall, Azimzhan Askarov was sentenced to life in prison on charges of inciting ethnic hatred, organizing riots and murder of a policeman in the south of the country during June events in 2010.

The case was sent for review after the UN Human Rights Committee has demanded the immediate release of Askarov and restoration of his rights.
