14 landslides descend in Kyrgyzstan in 2017

In 2016, there were registered 17 landslides, and 14 landslides had already descended for 3 months of 2017. Azamat Mambetov, deputy head of the Crisis Situations Management Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic told today at a press briefing.

According to him, there is an activation of all dangerous natural processes in the country in connection with warming. This relates to avalanches and landslides.

Azamat Mambetov told that the mass of the snow in winter amounted from 170 to 300 percent of the norm. This affects stability of the slopes, where landslides can descend.

The republic has more than 10,000 potentially dangerous sites. More than 4,000 of them threaten to settlements.

He added that «a lot of precipitation is expected in the near future, which will turn into snow, so it will entail avalanches threat». «Therefore, the Ministry of Emergency Situations asks all citizens to be cautious and not to ignore the requests of the Ministry of Emergency Situations," he said.
