Ministry of Health proposes to regulate prices of medicines at state level

The Ministry of Health initiates amendments to the law, according to which the government of the Kyrgyz Republic will regulate the prices of medicines, the head of the expert group on the development of legislation on medicines Suyunbek Syrdybaev said at a press conference on «The problem of access to medicines in Kyrgyzstan.»

According to him, the law in this area won’t solve the problem completely, but will start providing high-quality medicines to the population of the country.

We are an import-dependent country, as 97 percent of medicines are imported to Kyrgyzstan. According to the amendments, it is proposed to recognize medicines as a special kind of product. This is the only product when neither the buyer nor the seller has full information about its effect, and this type of commodity needs a special kind of regulation.

The expert also said that in connection with this, it is planned to introduce changes in a number of laws and regulations — the Administrative and Criminal Codes of the country.
