Edil Baisalov calls for march for freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan

Edil Baisalov, a public figure, proposes to hold a large march for civil rights and freedom of speech in Bishkek. He is outraged by the pressure on the media and calls on everyone to take part in the protest.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan sued two lawyers of Ata Meken party. The supervisory body considers the speech of the lawyers at a press conference on March 1 that the cargo on the crashed Boeing 747 allegedly belonged to the family of the president of the country as insulting.

The Prosecutor General’s Office calls Azattyk and Zanoza.kg defendants. It demands to recover 23 million soms — 10 million soms from the lawyers Kanatbek Aziz and Taalaygul Toktakunova, 10 million from Azattyk and 3 million from Zanoza.kg in favor of Almazbek Atambayev.

Later, the Prosecutor General’s Office filed another lawsuit against Azattyk and Zanoza.kg. The reason for the claims against journalists was the comment of the deputy of the Parliament Omurbek Tekebayev after his trip to Cyprus.

Yesterday it became known that the ruling party filed a lawsuit against 24.kg news agency onFebruary 24. SDPK demands to recover from journalists one million soms saying that we have damaged the business reputation of the political organization.

Edil Baisalov said that the initiated litigation with the media is an indicator of the weakness of the authorities.

The march will be held on March 18 at 10.00 a.m. at the South Gate of Bishkek.
