The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan commented to 24.kg news agency on the decision of Ata Meken party to put forward its leader Omurbek Tekebayev as a single candidate for the presidency.
According to commission member Nazarali Aripov, there is no court verdict so far, according to which Tekebayev is found guilty, so he can be registered.
“But the official registration will begin in August. Even if the trial continues at this time, Omurbek Tekebayev can run for the post. But if he is convicted, then he will be removed from the race,” Nazarali Aripov said.
Omurbek Tekebayev is kept in GKNB detention center until April 25. He is accused of corruption and fraud.
