Atambayev: Power methods of pressure on authorities not to help offenders

President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev today met with representatives of public associations «Meken Sheyitteri», «Aikol Ala-Too», «Er Tegi» and «April Bayragy» to discuss the current situation and issues related to the events dedicated to the seventh anniversary of the April People’s revolution.

«Relatives of the killed on April 7, 2010, and the injured citizens, as well as activists who defended Bishkek residents from the pogroms and looting during the April events expressed their indignation at the attempts of some politicians to evade responsibility for their crimes," the press service noted.

«The stated that it is insulting for them to see how implicated in corruption and looting people not only cast a shadow on the bright image of the heroes of the April Revolution, but continue to hide behind their names when it is time to be responsible for their theft and bribery," statement said.

«They do not have the moral right to use the names of the passed away heroes, they are not worthy of this," the co-chair of Er Tegi NGO Aychurok Kamaeva said. Her father Usenbek Kamaev died on April 7 on Ala-Too Square.

Almazbek Atambayev noted that he sympathizes in many respects with the feelings of representatives of public organizations, but urged them to observe the rule of law.

«I am confident that law enforcement bodies will sort out everything and will bring to responsibility those who broke the law. And no power methods of pressure on the authorities will help them. There are no untouchable in the country any more. This applies to the heads of all branches of government — both incumbent and former. And those who thanks to the heroism of ordinary Kyrgyzstanis, who died for the country’s future, came to power after April 7 are responsible to the people on two counts!» the head of state said.
