President of Kyrgyzstan concerned about decline of trust between countries

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov made a speech at the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

According to him, the world is at a turning point now.

«We all witness and feel the negative changes in the world order, increasing geostrategic competition between major powers and their blocs. Geopolitical tension leads to the fact that the world is moving towards fragmentation into regional and sub-regional financial and economic blocs and systems,» Sadyr Japarov said.

It is also obvious that governments of various countries will be forced to make their economic, technological and geopolitical choices, he added.

«Among the shocks of global scale, which have not yet completely gone away, I would like to mention the spread of coronavirus infection, which cost humanity millions of lives and brought economic losses exceeding $12 trillion. We are experiencing the highest inflation rates and highest food prices the world has not seen in the last 60 years. Risks of geo-economic fragmentation, according to the International Monetary Fund, may lead to a 7 percent drop in the world gross domestic product,» the head of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

The decline of trust between different countries and groups of countries is alarming. It is vital to build such a multilateral system, which prevents further fragmentation of the geopolitical landscape in the world.

«Were international conditions 78 years ago, when the United Nations Organization had just started its activities after the bloodiest and most destructive war in the history of mankind, easier than they are nowadays? Were the contradictions between countries, especially political and ideological, less acute then than they are today? What prevents member states from listening to each other and trying to overcome differences, to establish dialogue? For all the past years, despite the Iron Curtain and military-bloc thinking, the UN has been and remains the most legitimate and universally recognized platform of diplomacy, uniting developed and developing, large and small countries,» the head of state stressed.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan strongly supports the UN as the only universal intergovernmental international organization authorized by all member states to find solutions to the challenges and threats that constantly arise before humanity.

«I expect that our organization under the leadership of the Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres and with the effective assistance of member states will be able to find mechanisms and ways to more effectively perform all its functions, to assist member states in solving urgent global problems and overcoming challenges,» the President of the Kyrgyz Republic said.
