Law on fakes is powerless against bots and only works against media

Gulshat Asylbaeva’s law «On protection against inaccurate (false) information» is powerless against bots on social media. MP Chingiz Aidarbekov announced at a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the specified law works only against officially registered mass media.

«Let the Ministry of Culture work in the areas that it oversees. Let’s it not censor. Earlier, representatives of the department said that they are not monsters, but in order to implement the law, they are forced to make the wrong decisions. Therefore, we are making changes,» Chingiz Aidarbekov said.

Seven deputies of Parliament — Zhanar Akaev, Adakhan Madumarov, Elmurza Satybaldiev, Gulya Kozhokulova, Dastan Bekeshev, Seyid Atambaev and Chingiz Aidarbekov — initiate amendments to the Law of ex-deputy Gulshat Asylbaeva «On protection from inaccurate (false) information».

The discriminatory document was adopted by the sixth convocation after a meeting with the president in violation of all procedures of the regulations. Representatives of the media community and experts have repeatedly stated that the law is directed against independent media. The blocking of Azattyk, Respublica websites and the partial blocking of 24.kg news agency are the proof of this.

Sadyr Japarov signed the law «On protection against inaccurate (false) information», initiated by MP Gulshat Asylbaeva, on August 23, 2021.
