Hajj 2023: President reminds muftiyat of unpleasant facts of corruption

The President of Kyrgyzstan received Director of the State Commission for Religious Affairs Toigonbai Abdykarov and head of the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan Zamir Rakiev.

The Supreme Mufti informed Sadyr Japarov about organization of the pilgrimage of the country’s citizens to the Muslims’ holy city of Mecca. According to him, for the current year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has allocated 6,110 quotas for pilgrims from Kyrgyzstan who want to make the hajj. A republican headquarters for organization of hajj 2023 has been created, which includes representatives of state bodies, law enforcement agencies, in order to prevent corruption, ensure transparency and control over the targeted use of funds.

Toigonbai Abdykarov provided the head of state with information on the current activities of the commission, the work done and priority plans for the near future.

Sadyr Japarov, after listening to the reports, stressed the special importance of preventing corruption in the preparation of the upcoming pilgrimage. He recalled the unpleasant facts related to financial irregularities and corruption in the organization of the hajj in the previous years.

According to the president, the pilgrims spend a lot of money, so they have the right to know how their money is spent, and therefore corruption is unacceptable.

Sadyr Japarov instructed to continue active work to clarify the Decree «On measures to streamline family celebrations and funeral rites in the Kyrgyz Republic», designed to prevent excessive waste during funerals, commemorations and other ceremonies and events.
