Cabinet changes electricity tariffs for state-financed institutions

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan made changes to the medium-term tariff policy for 2021-2025. The order was signed by the head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov.

The electricity rates remained unchanged for the population. The amendments concern tariffs for industrial, agricultural, budget-funded and other non-residential consumers. Now they have a rate of 2.52 soms per 1 kilowatt-hour, excluding taxes.

The same tariff was set for all state and municipal institutions financed from the republican/local budget. The tariffs have been increased exactly for this category of consumers.

Now the Cabinet of Ministers raises this rate by 88 tyiyns — up to 3.4 soms per kilowatt-hour.

Previously, it was planned that the tariff for budget-funded institutions would be adjusted by a multiplying factor. The Cabinet of Ministers excludes this norm.

It notes that the amendments were made to simplify the application of electricity tariffs for state-funded consumers.

The new tariffs will come into effect on December 28, 2022.

In fact, budget-funded institutions have long been paying 3.4 soms per kilowatt-hour. Previously, this tariff was set for them, taking into account the multiplying factor.

«From January 1 this year, we buy electricity at 3.4 soms per kilowatt-hour for state-funded organizations. Gold miners started buying it at 5.4 soms per kilowatt-hour. I think there are about 200,000 rich families who could also afford it,» Akylbek Japarov said at the beginning of 2022.
