COVID-19: Strict restrictions reintroduced in prisons of Kyrgyzstan

Due to an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 infection and community-acquired pneumonia, the management of the Penitentiary Service of Kyrgyzstan issued an order regarding the work of all bodies and institutions of the penal system. Press service of the State Penitentiary Service reported.

According to the document, it is ordered to:

  • Resume work on the compliance with the anti-epidemic regime in the entrusted units, regularly carry out disinfection measures;
  • Carry out daily inspection and thermometry of employees before entering the service;
  • Introduce mandatory wearing of medical masks and treatment of hands with disinfectants;
  • Enforce social distancing measures and ban mass events;
  • Take measures to prevent violations of service discipline and sanitary and epidemiological requirements by employees both during their service and after hours.

It is noted that the order applies not only to detainees and convicts, but also to their relatives who come to visit, as well as lawyers.

«Citizens placed in pre-trial detention centers will only be accepted, if they have a negative result of a rapid test or PCR test. The same medical documents on the state of health will be required from relatives who come to visit the convicts.

Acceptance of parcels with perishable products will be limited — only products that are subsequently subject to heat and disinfection treatment.

Documents confirming the absence of coronavirus infection will also be needed for other categories of people visiting penitentiary facilities for official reasons, for example, lawyers,» the statement says.

As during the previous aggravation of the pandemic situation, visits of representatives of the media, NGOs, international and other organizations to special institutions will be limited.
