Bermet Baryktabasova: Patients extremely misuse ineffective remedies

Patients extremely misuse ineffective remedies in the last 15-20 years. The expert in the evidence based medicine Bermet Baryktabasova told journalists.

According to her, in the development of clinical protocols, they should not include ineffective, unproven, unsubstantiated remedies. "But over the last 15-20 years, there is an  alarming misuse of ineffective remedies. And the trouble is that the dietary supplements (nutraceuticals), vitamins and aids, have fully replaced the basic treatment. The inefficient remedies include the whole group of nootropics, immunomodulators. We need to persuade the scientific environment to refuse it," Bermet Baryktabasova said.

"Now we need to not only the complete reform of the health care system as a practice, but also the reform of scientific and educational environment. The National Certification Commission, which confirms all the researches and gives scientific degrees, says: there is a very small number of researches in favor of health care for many, many years. Everything else is a dead weight," she noted.

"Scientific research can be carried out, but in observance of the rights of patients. The substance, which, presumably, could have the effect of a drug, is tested first in vitro, then on laboratory animals, then on healthy volunteers and only then - on the patients," Bermet Baryktabasova added.
