At least 18 maternal deaths registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2016

At least 18 maternal deaths have been registered in Kyrgyzstan for four months of 2016. At least 63 mothers have died in 2015. Consultant of the Ministry of Health Care press center Elena Bayalinova said with reference to the chief specialist of the Ministry Aigul Boobekova.

"Large life tragedies are behind these dry figures. These are children who were left without maternal warmth and affection, these are husbands who were left without wives. Why do the women die? There are lots of reasons. One of the main is social and economic component, when women do not turn to health workers in time, when the women are not allowed to give birth, but they, nevertheless, take this risk and are brought to maternity homes in a serious condition. Of course, there is a problem with the staff," Aigul Boobekova said.

"There are large problems with unequal distribution of physicians. They are mostly distributed at the level of regional centers and towns. Furthermore, one of the problems is low quality of the provided medical care. The Ministry of Health Care is working hard, trying to identify the causes of maternal mortality. Employees are trained, they are sent to other countries for positive experience. We provide equipment for hospitals. I believe that our efforts should bring positive results. Compared to previous years, we have a small, steady decline in maternal mortality," Aigul Boobekova added.
