Talantbek Batyraliev: At least 10 percent of people in Kyrgyzstan oppose global immunization

"At least 10 percent of people in Kyrgyzstan oppose global immunization, in particular, because of religious commitment," the Health Care Minister Talantbek Batyraliev told today at a press conference.

According to him, last year was difficult, because at the beginning there was an outbreak of measles, which almost turned into an epidemic. "But we have managed to get it under control. By the end of May we have carried out vaccination with the support of international organizations and donors. Unfortunately, for 25 years of independence, we have left out some points in the development of medicine. Ten percent of our former colleagues- doctors openly opposed the global immunization. Those, who believed that vaccination is contrary to religious beliefs, offered strong resistance. But when their children started falling sick, they began to actively immunize them," Talantbek Batyraliev said.

Responding to questions of journalists on the prices of medicines, Talantbek Batyraliev stressed that it was influenced by dollar exchange rate. However, the Director General of the Drug Supply and Medical Equipment Department Rustam Kurmanov added that the prices of vital drugs will be settled. At least 6,718 drug items with the cost of more than 12 billion soms have been brought in the country in 2015.
