Traditional Anti-TB month campaign starts in Kyrgyzstan on March 1, 2016, consultant of the press center of the Health Care Ministry Elena Bayalinova informed.

According to her, the Ministry of Health Care of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Centre for Health Promotion in collaboration with partners are preparing for the largest information and education campaign for all citizens of the republic. "In 2015, according to preliminary data of the National Health Information Center, there is a decrease in tuberculosis incidence rate all over the republic. The rate made up 99 per 100,000 people (in 2014 - 101.1). The growth in tuberculosis by 8.9 percent was registered in Chui region. The level of mortality from tuberculosis decreased by 23 percent, except Naryn (+16.7 percent) and Osh (+6.8 percent) regions," statement said.

It is noted that 20 tuberculosis patients support groups: 6 - in Issyk-Kul region, 13 - in Chui and 1 - in Bazar-Korgon district of Jalal-Abad region have been formed in the republic. It is planned to open two more support groups in Alamudun district of Chui region. TB patients support group is a group of TB patients in the maintenance phase, whose members share their experiences and the successes achieved. Its purpose is to provide psychological support and strengthen the commitment of patients to treatment. Doctors answer all the issues related to the disease, its side effects.

It is also specified that since 2012, Kyrgyzstan on the example of Chui region has been piloting the model of outpatient treatment of tuberculosis that does not hinder the patient lifestyle, reducing discrimination and risk of hospital infections; it improves adherence to treatment through the established TB patients support groups and is three times cheaper than in-patient one.

World TB Day is marked annually on March 24.
