Weightlifter Izzat Artykov loses bronze medal of Olympics because of doping

Weightlifter from Kyrgyzstan Izzat Artykov was stripped of his bronze medal of the Olympic Games 2016 because of doping. Russian media reported citing the official website of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).++

According to them, CAS deprived him of the medal won in the weight category up to 69 kilograms as his doping test gave a positive result. In the final competition, held on August 10, Artykov lifted 339 kg (151 kg in the snatch + 188 kg in jerk). However, he was tested positive for a banned substance - strychnine. "His medal is annulled, and he is excluded from the Olympic competition," CAS said in a statement.

Recall, it was the only medal in Kyrgyzstan's collection. In accordance with the decree of the President, Artykov was to receive a lifetime allowance of 15,000 soms per month. Also, in accordance with the government decision, he was to get an allowance of the highest category (45,000 soms) in the next 4 years. In addition, the government provided a one-time award of 3.5 million soms. According to the results of the Olympics, Izzat Artykov was to be awarded the title of "the Honored Master of Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic."
