Eldest son of Tajikistan’s President becomes mayor of Dushanbe

The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon appointed his eldest son, Rustam Emomali, acting mayor of Dushanbe. The corresponding decree was signed the day before, Asia-Plus reported.

64-year-old Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloev, permanent capital's mayor for the past 19 years, has been dismissed. All of his deputies and heads of capital's districts also left their posts together with him.

Up to date, 29-year-old Rustam Emomali headed the Agency for State Financial and Corruption Control. He is the youngest general in the CIS.

Rustam Emomali was born on December 19, 1987. He graduated from Tajik National University with a degree in International Economic Relations, attended courses at the Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. 

He worked in the Committee on Investments and State Property and as vice chairman of the Union of Youth of Tajikistan. He is one of the founders and co-owners of Istiqlol football club, the president of the Football Federation of Tajikistan.
