Kazakhstan to build standard checkpoints on borders with Russia and Kyrgyzstan

Kazakhstan will build standard checkpoints on the borders with Russia and Kyrgyzstan, international news agency Kazinform reported.

This is about radical modernization of the 11 road crossing points on the new project, developed on the basis of international standards and recommendations.

As the head of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Maubaev noted at the press conference, the problem of financing the project is being solved now.

"It is planned that this will be done at the expense of the budget or public-private partnership. Reconstruction of the checkpoints involves upgrading the integrated control system, rebuilding the process of passage of checkpoints on the basis of our typical "standard" project. For the purposes of operational decision-making at the central level we plan the construction of the main supervisory control in Astana, where our service and the Border Service of the National Security Committee will be situated," he said.

According to him, the checkpoint in the project is fully automated, the contact of the carrier with officials excluded to the maximum degree.

Kairat Maubaev noted that the measures taken will help to speed up the passage of goods and vehicles up to 25 minutes and increase the capacity of border crossing points.

"Equipping and construction of the Kazakh border crossing points in the past were made on the ground of the former customs posts, that is, from the time of the Soviet Union and often near human settlements. Territories of checkpoints were limited and clamped by adjacent houses. Some checkpoints had no warehouses, loading and unloading equipment for carrying out a full inspection," Kairat Maubaev said.
