Igor Shestakov: SCO reformatted during last two years

"The SCO reformatted during the last two years," expert Igor Shestakov said today at a round table.

According to him, the SCO - an organization with a great and long history, but "it was originally a kind of club of presidents." "And in the last few years there is a dialogue between Russia and China on  the international cooperation," the expert said.

"Previously, Russia has been increasingly interested in security issues. China lobbied and held economic policy. In the last two years we have seen a breakthrough in economic cooperation," Igor Shestakov said.

The expert noted that the meeting of the SCO Heads of Governments held last week in Bishkek is important part of the cooperation with Uzbekistan. Now Tashkent is changing the leadership, and it is important for each of the SCO countries to establish relations with the new government.

"Exactly Uzbekistan is one of the important partners of the SCO. It will play a key role in the development of both economic ties within the SCO, as well as in the strengthening of security," Igor Shestakov said.

As an important outcome of the meeting of Prime Ministers of the SCO in Bishkek the expert called the building a logistics and transport infrastructure.

"After all, it is difficult to solve economic problems without the movement of transport routes. This is especially important for the KR. The country has no access to the sea, so it can't promote its products far beyond the country," the expert said.
