Kyrgyzstan to draw up “Akun’s list”

The so-called "Akun's list", which will include the names of officials who violate human rights, will be drawn up in Kyrgyzstan. Resolution of a joint meeting of the Committee to Protect Political Prisoners and the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression states.

In this document, activists urge to support the idea of ​​compiling "Akunov's list," develop criteria and principles of adding into it persons who systematically violate fundamental human rights in Kyrgyzstan.

The list is "to serve as lustration against officials who do not feel any responsibility to the citizens," the document says. 

As noted, the document is named after the civil activist Bektemir Akunov, who died in jail in Naryn on April 15, 2007. The detainee has repeatedly complained of torture by police officers.
