In Kyrgyzstan pharmacists oppose introduction of VAT on drugs

Pharmacists oppose the introduction of VAT on medical drugs. This was announced today at a press conference by the Chairman of the Board of the Pharmaceutical Union of KR Kosmosbek Cholponbaev.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance suggested to introduce amendments to the Tax Code. The draft resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Amendments to the Tax Code" proposes to amend the Article 242 and 257, thereby eliminating the exemptions on import and sale of drugs.

"In early May 2014 the issue was raised by the Ministry of Finance. Pharmacists gave their proposals through the Ministry of Health. We also wrote an appeal to the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic. However, the question still has not been discussed. We believe that state agencies want to make changes unilaterally, without a thorough weighing of benefits and dangers of innovations," stressed Kosmosbek Cholponbaev.
